as "tae kwon do", "taekwon-do" or "t'aegwondo") is a modern martial
art from Korea that is characterized by its fast, high and spinning
kicks. |

Taekwon-do
is an art of self-defense whose techniques come largely from the
ancient Korean martial art of
Taek-kyon, the origins of which date back about 1,300 years. The
system of Taekwon-do in its present form was formally introduced in
1955. |

Taekwon-do
made its debut outside of Korea in the
mid-1960’s, when its effectiveness in actual hand-to-hand combat was
proven and made famous on the battlegrounds of Vietnam. Since then,
Taekwon-do’s popularity has grown rapidly, and it is now the most
practiced martial art in the world. |

The
Jun Kim Taekwon-Do Institute was founded in 1974. The
institute has been producing
outstanding black belts in the Greater Jacksonville
area since then, including a number of national champions.
Grandmaster Jun Kim still teaches daily at the institute, along with
internationally certified instructors from both USA and Korea. |
